Helping Fund the Next Great Career Wave

Code.org® is a non-profit organization whose purpose is :  “Every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science.”   Furthermore, their organization is dedicated to expanding access to computer science, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities.   Their vision is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra.  Code.org organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign which has engaged 10% of all students in the world, and provides the leading curriculum for K-12 computer science in the largest school districts in the United States.  Code.org is supported by generous donors including Microsoft, Facebook, the Infosys Foundation, Google, Omidyar Network, and many more.

MVCS currently utilizes the free, open-source materials in our 2-6th grade elementary classrooms from Code.org®.   Our goal is to expand it to Kindergarten and first grade as well.   Students learn to write simple code to solve puzzles and navigate mazes which are the building blocks to understanding and writing computer code.

Each student has their own log in and each class has a code so that our instructors are able to track student progress.  As instructors monitor stundent progress, they can work at their own pace and receive assistance as needed.
