This page will cover general guidelines for our Elementary School, as well as topics specific to a certain grade level.
Arrival and Release From School Please reference the Pick Up and Drop Off map on page 30 of the handbook to find the location to pick up and drop off your child. If there are multiple children in one family, or if you car pool, please send the older student(s) to the area where the youngest student is to be picked up.
Chapel Please check with your child’s teacher for Chapel starting times. Chapel is led by either MVCS teachers or by the pastoral staff of Mountain View Assembly. Parents are always welcome to come in to Chapel!
Elective Classes MVCS students have the opportunity each week to participate in Art, Physical Education, Computer, Media Center, and Music. Please check with your child’s home room teacher for their elective times.
Parent Volunteers To volunteer in a class please contact your child’s teacher directly. While on campus, please check in to the school office and receive a visitor’s badge. MVCS loves our parent volunteers. All volunteers may be subject to background checks.
Student Recognition At the end of each semester, our students are honored in a special assembly. Students receive recognition for being on the Principal’s A Honor Roll, the A/B Honor Roll, Christian Character, Most Improved, and other special awards that our teachers enjoy handing out.
Tutoring Please check with your child’s teacher for special tutoring dates and times. MVCS also provides a list of high school students who are available for tutoring. If you are interested in hiring an MVCS high school student for tutoring, please contact your child’s teacher or the school office.
Academic Guidelines - Kindergarten Students entering kindergarten at MVCS are required to have taken the Kindergarten Readiness Test (KRT) and have turned the age of 5 by September 30th. The student/teacher ratio in kindergarten is 15 to 1. By the time that your child graduates from kindergarten, the following abilities and concepts will be mastered:
• Know that God loves them, the attributes of Jesus (joy, peace, kindness, love, etc.). • Familiar with Biblical stories that teach right from wrong, developing morality. • Write name in print lettering. Recognize and write upper and lower case letters. • Recognize all short and long vowels. • Know pre-reading skills such as blends, vowel and consonant sounds. • Sequence comprehension of stories (i.e. beginning, middle, end). • Count and recognize all numbers to 100. • Know all primary colors and all basic shape structures (squares, triangles, etc.). • Follow classroom and hallway behavioral instruction and directions. • Learn how to share their space an/or personal belongings. • Learn social interaction with other children (conversations, patience, etc.).
Student Recognition - Kindergarten Each week, our kindergarten students are honored for their efforts with “treasure box” items. Kindergarten students also have their own special Graduation Day. Our kindergarten graduates dress up in their very own cap and gowns and receive diplomas commemorating their accomplishment. Please visit our calendar on the MVCS website www.mvcs.net for the date of this year’s kindergarten graduation.
Assemblies The MVCS staff and administration, along with the pastoral staff of Mountain View Assembly conduct our assemblies.
These assemblies will range from traditional chapel and praise and worship services to wild and wacky events put on by our student council. Included in our assemblies will be training in areas such as leadership, academic development, and emotional growth, along with a variety of topics related to current events affecting our students. MVCS will also hold assemblies for academic and athletic honors.
